The Spirit of Love

It is of highest importance that you come to understand as a believer that the Jesus kind of love cannot be exhibited outside the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of love; He is the one responsible for any genuine act of love done by an individual. Without the help of the Holy Spirit in the area of love, it is obvious that the believer can certainly not be able to carry out Jesus’ order as touching the matter of love. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love…”

Under the law, they were told to love their neighbours as themselves: But, compared to Jesus’ new commandment, it is nominal. He commanded them to love one another as he had loved them, not as they love themselves. The difference here is that the love they had for themselves was nothing compared to Jesus’ love for them. Then they were to love their neighbour as themselves, but now it is no longer in that manner, but rather as He (Jesus) loves them.

It is obvious that the Jesus kind of love can only be generated by the Holy Spirit. Even Jesus ascribed all His works to have been the direct handiwork of the Holy Spirit that was in Him, and so also in us. “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” Romans 5:5.

I see you victorious already as you yield to God’s command to love.
