Bible Text

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

Proverbs 15:1

Devotional

The tone of our voice in speech can go to a very large extent to determine the response of the people we are communicating with. No is no, but when said abruptly or in an abrasive manner has different meaning. You can politely point one’s fault and errors. It mustn’t be with rudeness, but by love in the spirit of meekness should we deal with others in our day to day activities. Some people say the right thing but in a wrong way; and that devalues whatever record they may be trying to put straight. As children of God, on earth to reign as the light to the dark world, God expects us to speak calmly with wisdom promoting peace and not wrath. Several strife in the body of Christ among brethren in places of work, school, neighbourhood is traceable to lack of soft words. The parties involved in communication cannot speak in the same harsh tone and expect peace.

One of the parties can restore peace with a soft answer and God always expects that wise person to be you. So, make it a habitual thing to speak and respond to people wisely in the spirit of love and meekness. No matter the situation you find yourself, apply self-control by the help of the Spirit. A man who has no control over his spirit is like a city without walls (Proverbs 25:28). Don’t always be in a hurry to respond when you are very angry or in a hurry to let out words at people when you are angry. Learn to speak like the virtuous woman. Scripture says, “She openeth her mouth with wisdom and in her tongue is the law of kindness” (Proverbs 31:26).

I pray God gives you understanding.
