Bible Text

The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.

Deuteronomy 28:7

Devotional

When people just wake up and decide to gather against you for no just cause, just rejoice and give God praise because they are about to add their names to the list of those who were scattered by God for your sake. The word of God is very definite about the shameful scattering and fall of those who gather against His children. In Isaiah 54:15, it says, “Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.”

There are people that have given themselves the task of always gathering against those they envy or dislike to pull them down. At times those they gather against may not even be aware of their secret gatherings against them, but God is aware and would not allow them to succeed. As He declared in our anchor text so would He cause chaos in their midst and they would scatter fleeing in several ways, though they came in one way. Mysteriously, the judgment of God would hit them, and they would end up falling for the sake of God’s children.

Judah was just on her own doing her thing and glorifying God when three nations Moab, Ammon and Mount Seir gathered together against them in battle to add their names to the number of those that would fall for their sake. When Israel came out of Egypt, God did not allow Israel to invade them (2 Chronicles 20:10), but they by themselves came to defeat themselves. And as God’s judgment is on such gathering, so it ended. The three nations fought themselves to death. Judah only sang the praises of God and collected the spoils of war without fighting. Whoever gathers against you will definitely fall for your sake.

Prayer

My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, let those who gather against me, scatter and fall for my sake.
