From Bitter to Better

Bible Text

Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

Devotional

There is a great invitation from the Prince of Peace, the Lord of lords, the shepherd of our souls to whoever is tired of a life of labour and burden to come unto Him and exchange such for His rest. If there is one thing I know of Jesus, you cannot come to Him and your life remain the same. It must become better and better until the perfect day (Proverbs 4:18).

Are you experiencing any form of bitterness? By bitterness I mean any unfavourable or unpleasant situation contrary to God’s plan and purpose for your life. A life of poverty is a life of bitterness. Roaming around looking for employment without making headway is a life of bitter experience. Qualified yet always denied is a life of bitterness. But there is a great opportunity to walk out of that state by coming to Jesus, the Master, who promised you rest, if you can come to Him, believing in Him and surrendering to His Lordship. Hebrews 4:3 says, “For we which have believed do enter into rest…”

There was a situation of toiling all day without catching any fish by professional fishermen in Luke chapter 5. They were about packing up to leave in that state until they encountered Jesus, the Specialist to turning bitter to a better life, and He turned their bitter story to glory and made them a channel of blessings to others. You can enjoy the same by coming to Jesus; His arms are wide open to receive you.

Prayer

My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, I come to you Lord, give me rest.
