Our anchor text spelt out God’s original purpose for creating man and Adam operated in it fully until sin crept in and altered his destiny. What he was supposed to dominate and had earlier dominated when he had not committed sin started lording over him. A person created in the image and likeness of God became less of whom he was supposed to be because of sin. Philippians 2:13 says work out your salvation with fear and trembling. It is your duty to work it out by giving yourself to the wisdom of God to rule your life. God has given man His Holy Spirit to help him live above sin with His nature of righteousness in Him. It is therefore the responsibility of the redeemed to yield to the counsel of God by upholding righteousness and living holy.
GOD’S COUNSEL TO LIVE ABOVE SIN
Be addicted to the Word of God – Psalms 119:11 says, “Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee.” God’s word fortifies you against sin. It places you where you ought to be above sin, for sin shall not have dominion over you (Romans 6:14).
Keep Godly Company – Proverbs 13:20, Proverbs 27:17, 2 Corinthians 6:14. The company you keep either brings you closer to God or keeps you far from Him.
Praying Without Ceasing – 1 Thessalonians 5:17. A prayerful lifestyle keeps one on fire, making one a danger zone for the devil to penetrate with sin. Prayer destroys the hold of sin in one’s life.
Fasting – Matthew 17:21. Fasting helps to subdue the flesh and keeps one alive in the spirit.
Prayer
My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, I receive grace to walk in your counsel and fulfil my destiny.
