A Good Name

Several persons today are pursuing gold and silver by all means not caring how their actions affect their name. They don’t care who they trample under feet, who they swindle, underpay or cheat in their business deals. All they care about is money increasing rapidly in their account even at the detriment of their own name.

The world system which has also crept into the church calls such persons successful. It refers to such persons as sharp and smart. But irrespective of that, when describing them, it also adds the “but” just like the “but he was a leper” that was added to the description of Naaman in 2 Kings 5:1. How does it sound in your ears when someone is described like this: That’s brother Clement, the Praise leader who is an internet fraudster.

God is not against you having gold and silver. He is the owner of the gold and silver as He declared in Haggai 2:8, “The silver is mine and the gold is mine…”; and it is through His children that He would display such prosperity on earth. He just didn’t want what they should dominate to lord over them. But sad to say, rather than being a master of money and wealthy, the reverse is the case with many. They are now servants to money because once money is involved in anything, they lose their sanity and sense of judgment.

The question now is if God owns the silver and gold, why do people go out of His will to chase them? Many do not want to follow due process. They feel it is slow and go for ungodly means, hence soil their name first before God, and then men and later, time judges them because “Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase” (Proverbs 13:11).

Child of God, Psalm 112:1-3 says it all. Follow God accordingly and you will have gold and silver with a good name.
