Bible Text

Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

Proverbs 13:15

Devotional

Child of God, good understanding gives favour. The major difference in the exploits of believers in the kingdom is the level of their understanding. When a believer has good understanding of the operations of the kingdom, he would willingly apply himself to them and eventually, reap the rewards of his investment.

Good understanding is what makes a believer give cheerfully and sacrificially. It is what makes him or her to be a blessing to others and favour the kingdom. Good understanding facilitates obedience. The Bible says in Psalms 111:10, “…a good understanding have all they that do his commandments…” No wonder the Psalmist prayed, “Give me understanding, and I shall live” (Psalms 119:144b), “Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart” (Psalms 119:34).

The children of Issachar in 1 Chronicles 12:32, stood out and became commanders despite their few numbers among the Israelites because they had understanding of the times and knew what Israel ought to do at that time. If you can acquire good understanding, you will soar in favour. As you give yourself to the counsel of God in Joshua 1:8 and fellowship with the Spirit asking Him to open your understanding, you will soar in good understanding and enjoy favour.

Prayer

My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, give me good understanding of your word.
